The Community School’s Parent Development Committee is pleased to announce a monstrously fun treat – the Geocaching Challenge!
The Geocaching Challenge is an opportunity for you to have some fun in your community and raise some money for TCS’s School and Young Adults in Transition programs. The Challenge will take place throughout the month of October, starting October 1st and ending October 31st.
What is Geocaching?
According to the official website: “Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location.”
There are actually physical hidden treasures placed all over the world for Geocachers to find. With the help of a GPS receiver (most newer smart phones have a built in GPS receiver) you can find these treasures for yourself!
How can this help TCS?
We invite you to join the hunt for hidden treasure, go explore, and help TCS in the process! Participants in the Geocaching Challenge will form teams, find sponsors, and compete to find as many geocaches as they can during the month of October. All proceeds will be donated to TCS. Also, prizes will be awarded to top treasure hunters at the end of the Challenge! Read more here: TCS Geocaching Challenge.
Here’s an example of how it works:
Team TCS works hard throughout the month of October and finds 50 geocaches. If their sponsors had pledged…
- 50 cents ($0.50) per geocache, the sponsor’s donation would be $25.
- $1.00 per geocache, $50
- $5.00 per geocache, $250
Sponsors may specify a cap on their final donation if they wish to.
I’m in! How do I sign up?
Great! You can register as a team or individual – teams may have up to four members and must choose a team captain. Registration forms can be submitted online or may be printed here: Geocaching Registration Form. Then, you go find sponsors. We will post more information soon on ideas and suggestions for finding sponsors. Sponsors can be anyone – friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, local businesses, etc. Please register for the Challenge by Tuesday, September 30th. We will provide more information and logistics about the Challenge at the Kick-Off event on September 26th (see below for details), as well as by email.
I’d like to sponsor a team. What do I do?
Thank you very much! Pledge forms for sponsors can be submitted online or may be printed here: Pledge Form. If you would like to sponsor someone but don’t have a team or individual in mind, please contact TCS. If you’d prefer, you may also make a straight out donation in support of the Geocaching Challenge and TCS.
We will have a Kick-Off event on Friday, September 26th at 2:00pm at The Community School. There will be snacks, a demonstration (a guide will help you find a geocache at or near The Community School), and an opportunity to ask questions or get some tips on finding geocaches. You do not need to attend the Kick-Off in order to participate in the Geocaching Challenge.
Wait! I still have questions!
No problem. Just contact Mike Fields at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will also provide more information at the Kick-Off Event and to teams once they register (including how to register on the geocaching website, find sponsors, etc.).
Remember, the Challenge will take place from October 1st – 31st. We will post pictures and updates from the teams to track their progress- on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We’ll be using the hashtag #TCSgeocaching on all platforms, so you’ll know where to find us.
We’re looking forward to a monstrously fun October as we have fun finding treasure and raising money for The Community School!
